Thanks for Allaying My Fears

On July 31, 2007 I was scheduled for my first colonoscopy with Dr. Farber at New Island Hospital. I was so nervous that I considered canceling this voluntary procedure right up to the last minute. Thankfully, I found the approach by Dr. Farber and the anesthesiologist to be disarming and comforting.

I must commend every staff member that I encountered starting with the receptionist where the registration process began. They were genuinely friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The ambulatory waiting area was clean, comfortable and something I never thought I'd say about a hospital, inviting.

I was highly impressed with the people who worked in the Endoscopy Unit. They calmed my fears with their good-natured jokes, indulgent attitudes towards my vast apprehensions, and high degree of professional competence. I am indebted to Toni, Mary, Anna and Sue who cheerfully lent their support during my hour of intense anxiety.

I was told to schedule my next colonoscopy in five years; with the treatment I received at New Island Hospital, I may not wait that long! Thank you for restoring my faith in the possibility of having a pleasant hospital experience.
