Altieri FamilyLast week my family had the upsetting experience of finding our beloved 92-year-old mother Mary unresponsive with a bout of pneumonia. She also suffers from Alzheimer's disease. The entire staff of the Emergency Room and S Unit where she was admitted, and all departments involved with her care was professional, helpful and very kind. She had one-one-care throughout her stay that afforded us, her family piece of mind in the hours that we were not able to be with her. The Head Nurse of S Unit Vicky, was warm and kept us informed of all events regarding my mother's progress. The staff members that were assigned to her one-on-one care were attentive and respectful at all times. Dr. Levitt visited my mother daily and kept us all up to speed regarding her current situation as well as the future scenarios for her long-term care. He made daily phone calls, patiently repeated information to different family members, and and offered his full support to our situation. He eased us through her transition to Daleview Care Center and arrived within a hour of her admission to assess her condition. His demeanor was frank, respectful and informative and his personal interaction with my mother was touching and kind. I worked at Mid Island Hospital years ago and I know the inner workings of the hospital setting are complicated at best and that even under the best of circumstances a true coordination of care by all individuals to any one patient is a rare and valuable thing. My family and I want to commend your staff for not only a job well done, but a job done with heart and soul, caring and respect. Seeing a parent's health slip away is one of the hardest things to deal with and your hospital staff and Dr. Levitt made this trying time less difficult for the entire Altieri family. Sincerely, Thomas Altieri and family
