New Island Hospital Nurse Eileen Jackson, R.N., (center) was honored by the Long Island Health Network as a "Hero of Healthcare" during its annual symposium attended by some 700 nurses, doctors and other caregivers.
Jackson was among 21 outstanding professionals from across the network's 10 member-hospitals to be recognized for their spirit and commitment to their patients and healing. Joining Jackson were (from left) LIHN Senior Vice President Kathleen Masiulis, New Island Hospital V.P. Patient Care Services Margaret Minnick, New Island President and CEO Aaron E. Glatt, M.D., and LIHN President and CEO Brian Currie.
Setting a tone of caring and compassion was this year's keynote speaker, Dr. Patch Adams, whose unique approach to medicine was depicted in a hit Hollywood movie starring Robin Williams. LIHN hospitals have worked cooperatively as a clinically integrated joint venture to institute standards of care and efficiency that have improved clinical quality and results, while saving tens of millions of dollars.
